When you eloped and are telling everyone

An announcement is not an invitation, so it asks for nothing. It shares news. If you are also throwing a party, say so on a separate line; if not, the card simply ends with your names, the date and the place.

Traditional Warm Modern

Traditional

Mr and Mrs Vikram Rao
have the honour of announcing
the marriage of their daughter
Priya & Etienne
Saturday, the twelfth of June

The formal announcement: hosts announce, they do not request. No reply is needed, and the card says nothing that implies one.

Warm

We ran away and did it!
Priya & Etienne
are married, and couldn’t
be happier to tell you
Saturday 12 June 2027

The news in your own words, with a little of the joy in it.

Modern

Priya & Etienne
eloped.
Very happy. More soon.

A few words of news, no request. Works as a card, a postcard or a photo caption.

What people ask

Should an announcement ask for gifts?: No. If people ask, a gift list or registry link on your website answers it without the card having to.
We want a party later. Same card?: You can add one line, “Celebration to follow, details soon”, and send the invitation when you have a date.
Do we send it to everyone we would have invited?: Usually, yes. An announcement asks for nothing, not even a gift, so it is a kind way to tell everyone at once.
