Wedding website FAQ: ten questions guests ask

Answered three ways: traditional, warm and modern. Copy the one that sounds like you and fill in the part in brackets. On deckle.page each one is a single tap in the editor.

Dress code

Traditional

What is the dress code?

The dress code is [dress code]. Guests are asked to observe it in spirit rather than to the letter; comfort through a long day matters more than precision.

Warm

What should we wear?

We would love you in [dress code], though we would far rather you were comfortable than correct. If you are unsure, wear the thing you feel best in and you will be right.

Modern

Dress code?

[Dress code]. Nobody will be checking.

Children

Traditional

Are children invited?

The invitation is extended to those named upon it. The couple have chosen an adult celebration, and hope that parents will take it as an evening off.

Warm

Can we bring the children?

We adore your children, and we have settled on a grown-ups’ day so that you can have a proper evening of your own. If a sitter is the thing standing in your way, do tell us.

Modern

Are kids invited?

Adults only. We hope that reads as a night off rather than a problem.

Plus-ones

Traditional

May I bring a guest?

The invitation names each guest individually. Where a partner has been invited, their name appears alongside your own.

Warm

Can we bring someone?

We have written out every name by hand, so if your other half is not on the invitation it is because we had to stop somewhere, and not because we would not want them there. Do ask if you are unsure.

Modern

Can I bring a plus-one?

If a name is on the invitation, they are invited. If it is not, we ran out of room.

Parking

Traditional

Is there parking?

Parking is available at [venue]. Guests intending to leave a car overnight are asked to let us know beforehand.

Warm

Where can we park?

There is parking at [venue]. If you would rather leave the car and share a taxi with somebody, we think that is much the better plan.

Modern

Parking?

Yes, at [venue]. Leave the car if you plan to drink; we would rather you did.

Photographs

Traditional

May photographs be taken?

Guests are asked to set aside cameras and telephones during the ceremony, so that the first sight of the day belongs to those present. Photographs afterwards are very welcome.

Warm

Can we take photos?

Please do take photographs once the ceremony is over. We would love the day through your eyes as well as the photographer’s. During the ceremony itself we would rather see your faces than your phones.

Modern

Photos?

Phones away for the ceremony. After that, photograph anything you like and send us the good ones.

Dietary requirements

Traditional

How should dietary requirements be given?

Dietary requirements may be noted on your reply card. They are passed to the kitchen and to no one else.

Warm

How do we tell you about allergies?

There is a line on the reply card for anything you cannot eat. Please use it, however small it seems. We would far rather know now than watch you move something around a plate.

Modern

Where do I put allergies?

On the reply card, however minor. The kitchen needs it more than we do.

Gifts

Traditional

Are gifts expected?

No gift is expected. Guests who nonetheless wish to mark the day will find a list on this page.

Warm

What would you like as a gift?

Honestly, you coming is the present. If you would still like to give something, there is a short list on this page, and nothing on it is expected of anybody.

Modern

Gifts?

None expected. There is a list on this page if you would rather bring something than not.

Getting home

Traditional

How do guests return at the end of the evening?

Taxis in [area] are best booked in advance rather than found on the night. Guests staying nearby may wish to arrange to share.

Warm

How do we get home afterwards?

Do book a taxi before the day if you can. They are hard to come by in [area] late in the evening, and we would hate anyone to be left standing about at the end of it.

Modern

How do I get home?

Book a taxi in advance. Cars are hard to find in [area] late on.

Timings

Traditional

At what hour should guests arrive?

Guests are asked to arrive from [time] and to be seated shortly thereafter. The order of the day is set out on this page.

Warm

What time should we get there?

Come from [time] if you can. That gives you time to find a seat and say hello to people before anything begins. The rest of the day is set out on this page.

Modern

What time do I need to be there?

Arrive by [time]. Everything after that is on this page.

Weather and outdoors

Traditional

What happens if the weather is poor?

Part of the day is spent out of doors and the celebration continues whatever the weather. Guests may wish to bring a coat, and shoes that will forgive wet grass.

Warm

What if it rains?

Some of the day is outside and we are going ahead rain or shine, so bring a coat you do not mind and shoes that will survive a lawn. We would rather be damp together than indoors apart.

Modern

What if the weather is bad?

Some of it is outdoors and it goes ahead either way. Bring a coat. Heels and grass do not mix.
