Invitation wording

When the groom’s parents are hosting

Less common, and no less correct: the wording is the same as for the bride’s parents, with “son” in place of “daughter”. It is often chosen when his family is paying, when the wedding is in his family’s home town, or when hers cannot host.

MR AND MRS LUC MOREAU REQUEST THE PLEASURE OF YOUR COMPANY AT THE MARRIAGE OF P&E Priya & Etienne SATURDAY 12 JUNE 2027 WILTSHIRE

Mr and Mrs Luc Moreau
request the pleasure of your company
at the marriage of
Priya & Etienne

The same formula the bride’s parents use, with “son” for “daughter”. “Their son” belongs right before his name; when both names are set together, as here, leave it out.

MARIE AND LUC MOREAU HOPE YOU WILL CELEBRATE WITH THEM AT THE WEDDING OF P&E Priya & Etienne SATURDAY 12 JUNE 2027 WILTSHIRE

Marie and Luc Moreau
hope you will celebrate with them
at the wedding of
Priya & Etienne

First names, and a hope rather than a request. “At the wedding of” runs straight into the names, whichever comes first.

THE MOREAUS INVITE YOU TO THE WEDDING OF P&E Priya & Etienne SATURDAY 12 JUNE 2027 WILTSHIRE

The Moreaus

The family name alone. Short, and it makes plain who is hosting without a line of titles.

What people ask

Is it unusual for the groom’s family to host?
Less usual, not unusual. Nobody receiving the card will think twice about it.
Whose name goes first on the card?
Often his, because his parents are hosting, but either is correct. On deckle.page you type the names in the order you want.
Should the bride’s parents be on it?
Only if they are hosting too; then use the both-families wording.
