A new date gets its own card, sent to everyone who had the old one. It needs to say two things: the wedding is still on, and here is when. You do not owe anyone the reason. A line of thanks on your website covers it.
Mr and Mrs Vikram Rao announce that the marriage of their daughter Priya to Etienne Moreau will now take place on Saturday, the twelfth of June
An announcement, so it asks for nothing: the hosts, the couple, and the new date, which the card prints under these lines.
Warm
Priya & Etienne have a new wedding date and still very much want you there Saturday 12 June 2027
The change, then the reassurance. A guest who had the old date in the calendar reads that nothing else has changed.
Modern
Priya & Etienne New date. Same plan. Saturday 12 June 2027
Four words, and the date on the card does the rest.
What people ask
Do we need to send new invitations?
If invitations had already gone out, yes, or a change-the-date card first and the invitations after. If only save the dates went out, send the new date now and the invitation when you normally would.
Should we say why the date changed?
No. A short thank you for their patience is enough. Close friends will hear the story anyway.
What about guests who already booked travel?
Tell them yourselves, by message or phone, before the card arrives. Put what you know about hotels and room blocks on your website, and update it as it changes.
