Invitation wording

When one parent is hosting

A widowed, divorced or single parent hosts exactly as two would, on one line. Use the name they use now, with whatever title they prefer. Ask them, rather than guessing between Mrs, Ms and none at all.

Ms Anita Rao

Anita Rao
would be delighted if you could join her

Her full name without a title, and a sentence that sounds like a person asking.

Modern

ANITA RAO INVITES YOU TO THE WEDDING OF P&E Priya & Etienne SATURDAY 12 JUNE 2027 WILTSHIRE

Anita Rao
invites you to the wedding of
Priya & Etienne

One line each for host, request and couple. Nothing about who is not there.

What people ask

Should we mention a parent who has died?
Not as a host: hosts are living people issuing the invitation. There are gentle ways to remember them; see the page on a late parent.
Mrs, Ms or no title?
Whichever she uses. If unsure, ask: it is her name on the card.
Is it “requests” or “request”?
“Requests” for one host, “request” for two or more. Check this line before anything else.

Last checked 4 October 2026.
