A morning or midday wedding is usually followed by lunch, not dinner, and the card should say so, so guests do not plan around an evening that is not coming. The wording is the same as for any other wedding until the last line.
Mr and Mrs Vikram Rao request the pleasure of your company at the marriage of their daughter Priya to Etienne Moreau and afterwards at luncheon Saturday, the twelfth of June at eleven o’clock
“Luncheon” is the formal word for it, and it tells guests the day ends in the afternoon without saying so.
Warm
Priya & Etienne are getting married in the morning and would love you to stay for lunch Saturday 12 June 2027 at 11am
The time of day and what follows, in one breath. Guests know to come hungry and to keep the afternoon.
Modern
Priya & Etienne Vows, then brunch. Saturday 12 June 2027 at 11am
Three words for the whole plan. Change “brunch” to whatever you are serving.
What people ask
Is a daytime wedding less formal?
Only if you want it to be. The card can be as formal as any evening one. Put the dress code on the website, where there is room to say what daytime formal means to you.
Do we need to say there is no evening party?
Not in those words. Say what follows and roughly when it ends, on the website, and guests will plan around it.
Lunch, luncheon or brunch?
“Luncheon” on a formal card, “lunch” or “brunch” on anything else. Use the word you would use telling a friend.
